Itchy

Being itchy and having a bunch of sores is wearing thin.  Think a haircut might help my scalp.

Went out for Chinese takeout for dinner and came home to enjoy watching the Canucks play like they should.

Puzzles cleanup

We went geocaching today instead of Thursday as Lori will be away.  Spent the day in Surrey again and logged 16.  Of course I had to stay in the car while the others walked.  Did try going to the first one but could only stand for 10 minutes.   I want my stamina back.

Was a bit shaky this morning but a latte and a quick visit to the bathroom at Sungod helped.  We left my car there for the day.

Good lunch at the White Spot but only ate half.

Old friends

Met Georgina, Anni, Marilyn and Kate in Coquitlam for lunch.  They never change nor age.  We sat for a couple of hours.

Failed again to find a cache near Royal Columbian but think I know where it is.  Just couln't budge it.   Bought a few groceries in the nearby Thrifty's.

Dozed off when I got home.

Dreary Sunday

Good day to stay in.  Pru brought over the painting she gave me for Christmas and chocolates from Hawaii.  I gave her my shower present, a book of bedtime stories, for Jen's shower.  Too many colds around so I am trying to avoid crowds.

Gave up on Canucks in the third.  Shouldn't be this bad just because they are missing Kessler.

Glad Downton Abbey won the SAG - it was great tonight.

Chinese food

Had a quiet day.  Must find support group to stop addiction to Bejewelled.

Went to the Two Brothers on Granville for dinner.  Really enjoyed it.

DNF

Got up early. Heather came just after 8 to taken the two cartons of BCTLA archives that have been here for years.

Thought I'd log a nearby puzzle cache called Ode to Robbie Burns since it is RB Day, but couldn't find it in a really prickly hedge.

Saw a Dermatologist at the Cancer Agency.  He said I was scratching too much. Too tired to fill his prescription.

Puzzles in Surrey

Spent the day in Surrey with Lori, Pam and Maureen.  We found a lot of puzzle caches.  My job was to ride shotgun and navigate.  I only took them 11 km out of the way once when I mixed up two caches with similar names.

Had a great lunch at Loca Luna.  We were lucky with the weather.  It only started to drizzle on my drive home.

Was really shaky this morning.  Felt better after my later but was bagged by the time we quit.  Stopped at the Tim Horton's for the bathroom and went straight home.  Fell asleep watching TV.

Laundry

Did the laundry today.  One of the machines finished late and I tried skipping all the spin.  Of corse, I had to double the drying time in the end - up and down the stairs 4 times.

That was it for today.  I'll put it away another day.

Dentist

Six month checkup today.  My teeth were in better shape than they might have been.  Nothing wrong so I don't go back until July.

Bought a shower present for Jen.  I've decided not to go as the oncologist warned me about my low immune system while on this drug.  Too many people with colds and flu.

Had the lunch special at Notte's Bon Ton - ham and cheese croissant, leaf tea and a pastry for $7.95.

Headache

Woke up with a headache and had it most of the day.

Watched the Obama Inauguration all day.  Think he is in much greater danger this term.  There are a lot of really crazy people who might go for him over gun control.  Love that he mentioned the Stonewall Riots.  Reporters might actually research it.  One called it an anti-gay riot.  It was the opposite.  Gays were protesting a police raid at the Stonewall Inn.

Football and Hockey

Spent the afternoon watching the NFL playoff games and reading.  Then it was another Canucks game.  They lost in the shootout but played better than last night.

Richmond on Saturdays

Only a fool heads for Richmond on a Saturday.  Forgot how bad it is.  Still snagged a cache at Cambie and Rover Rd.  then fought my watpy to Cobbs & Kin,s at the back of Richmond Centre.  Had a couple of other plans but was lucky to make it back home and not be caught in a never ending traffic swirl.

Poor Canucks.  At least they won't start with the pressure of a winning streak.

New bakery

Found a Dutch European bakery named Broadmoor that was in 365 Days of Dining.  It is at #3 & Williams and was established in 1958.  I lived close by then.  Wonder if we shopped there?   Brought home a loaf of light rye, some cookies and a bowl of delicious onion soup.  Also bought some stuff at M&M Meats.

More geocaches

The manager and a plumber came to look at my bathroom and were satisfied I didn't have a leak.  Someone below me must have it.  Hung around for a while but they didn't come back.

Pam and Maureen picked me up and we found some caches in East Van and Burnaby.  My map is looking good and I have 5,941 finds.

After they dropped me off I went to the White Spot for dinner.  Enjoyed a hamburger (without fries) and half a bowl of chowder.  Nice not cooking.

Mets Group

Attended my first Metastatic Group since October.  I had really missed going.

Was going to pick up some lunch at Whole Foods but left when I saw the big line at the pay machine.     Too tired to stand that long.  Ended up in Ricmond and brought home a Bento Box that did for lunch and dinner.   Not as good as Applause but it was closed.

Good intentions

Was thinking of going out today but ended up doing nothing.  Must do something tomorrow as a plumber is coming on Thursday to turn off my water so they can fix a leak on the floor below.

PVR catchup

Spent the day watching shows I taped last night while watching the Golden Globes.  So good to have Downton Abbey back.  Tonight was Murdoch - Kitchener school should consider changing its name!

Not as itchy but sores spreading a bit.

Coffee with Mary

Watched the Seattle Seahawks in a playoff game.  This time they were behind 20-0 and came back to take the lead near the end.  Lost when Atlanta kicked a field goal at the last second.  Not bad for a young quarterback.  Now I can switch to Canucks since the short season starts next Saturday.

Mary Licke took me to Starbucks for a visit.  Always good to get out.

Busy day

Pam picked me up and we found a cache she needed for the date in Southlands. Beautiful day along the river.  We got a couple of others in South Van and she reached one I needed on Sea Island.

I then went to the Bay and bought a pasta pot with a gift certificate.  Bought some fresh pasta and sauce (and a cannoli) at Granville Island.  Too much traffic on the weekend but the handicapped card got me a parking spot near the door.

Certainly have more energy than a few weeks ago.

Saturday Sunshine

Another bright cold day to make everyone forget the rain.

Went to Steveston and first two stops were closed. Brought home a sinle piece halibut and chips and a cup of chowder from Dave's.  Chips don't travel well so I didn't eat many.

Stanley Park

Lori, Pam and Maureen picked me up and we spent the day geocaching in Stanley Park.  I did the navigating and they did the hard work.  Stopped at Prospect Point for lunch and I enjoyed a bowl of chowder.  The weather was bright and cold.  Great views of the snow on the mountains.  Bit cold sitting in the car while they strode off.  My Kobo jammed up so I switched to Angry Birds while I waited.

Home at 4:30.  My butt was sore by then and my sores itchy.

Thursday, January 10, 2013

Dozy day

Busy day tomorrow so didn't do much except scratch   Watched TV and read some Anne Perry on my Kobo.  Have my GPS units ready for a day of caching.  Il spend most of it in the car.

Good numbers

Saw one of my oncologists this morning.  My tumour markers have gone from 160 in October to 79.   Down by half!   Obviously the drugs are working.  She didn't like my sores and thought it might be shingles. I have new ointment to try.  I've been referred to an in house dermatologist to check on my cold sore.

Had some yam soup on Granville Is but couldn't eat much.  Too rich and thick.  Took some fruit and a piece of lasagna home.  Stopped at the Safeway ministore on Granville to fill the prescriptions.  Got home and fell asleep.

Closed Mondays?

To the Cancer Agency for bloodwork this morning.  My port was a bit cranky.  Haven't used it for a couple of months.

All set for one soup at Granville Island but they are closing on Mondays for January.  Finally found it near the end of a typed letter on the side of the door window.  Several upset people sanding around.  Anyone with a brain would have posted a simple and large sign weeks ago.

Had an egg salad sandich at the Sunshine Diner on the way home.

Seattle football

Seattle came from a 14-0 deficit to win the wild card game.  On to Atlanta.  Hockey strie looks like it's over.

Felt pretty good today except for he itching.

No medals

Canadians lost to Russia and won't get a medal after a 14 year streak.  How can a team win all the round robin games and fold in the playoffs?   Time for a new coach.

Didn't do much all day. So itchy!

Lunch treat

Lori came by and took me to the White Spot for lunch.  Had a cup of chowder and small Caesar salad.  Really tasty but couldn't finish.  Cut up an apple into the salad for dinner - perfect.

Fell asleep for an hour.  Getting to be a habit and I do feel better if I can do it.

Family meals

Had lunch in Gaston with Pru, Jen, Nancy, RJ and Tori.  The food at Pourhouse Vancouver was really good. I had a grilled cheese sandwich with cauliflower soup. Managed to eat about half of it.

Home for a rest and then to Chris's for a big family dinner.  Tried to educate a couple of the Texans about gay slurs.  Not sure it made a difference.

What meeting

Went to the Cancer Agency for my metastatic meeting.  Haven't been since October.  Trouble was there was no meeting, even though it was still on the calendar.

Decided to go to Granville Island for soup, but didn't like today's choices.  Picked some dessert at Terra and headed home.

Just wasn't my day.

Happy 2013

Attended a geocaching event in Burnaby, on the ricer near the foot of Byrne Rd.  nice to see so many friendly faces and got several hugs.  Finally got really tired just standing around.  The concrete picnic benches were too cold to sit on.  Headed back to the car and realized I'd only been there for 20 minutes.

Bought a few groceries and went to Tim Horton's for an egg salad sandwich.  Walked out in disgust when I found out they removed them from the menu.  Picked up some Japanese at Applause that did me for lunch and dinner

Watched another Indiana Jones movie.  One more to go.

New Year's Eve

Today was my father's birthday.  He was born December 31, 1910.  Always think of him on this date.

Had a quiet day.  Watched Canadian Junors beat Russia and then watched a couple of Indiana Jones movies.

Went to Pru's at 7 and stayed until 10.  Nancy and her kids are visiting from Texas.  David, Patrick, Kathryn, Lucas, Jesse and Chris were there ith various partners.  There were quite a few others, as well.  Jesse kept feeding us appetizers. He is such a good chef.  My favorites were a salad full of avocado & shrimp and perfect scallops served on a Chinese soup spoon.

Enjoyed myself but left when I got tired.  No sign of roadblocks - I drank only ginger ale.

2013 has to be better than 2012.  I must remind myself not to dwell on my recent illness.  There were so many good geocaching adventures.  We are heading to Portland in a few weeks when I'm feeling stronger.
